SKIL PWRCORE 20V and 12V Battery Compatibility Guide

SKIL PWRCORE 12 and PWRCORE 20 batteries work within their own voltage platforms; only explicitly labeled SKIL 12V/20V tools accept both, with chargers remaining model- and platform-specific.

Short answer: SKIL PWRCORE 20™ batteries work across SKIL 20V tools and outdoor equipment, while PWRCORE 12™ batteries work across SKIL 12V products. A 12V pack is not a general substitute for a 20V pack, and a 20V pack is not a general substitute for a 12V pack. The important exception is a separately designed group of SKIL tools marked 12V/20V or Multi-Volt; those tools explicitly accept either SKIL platform.

Which batteries work inside PWRCORE 20™

SKIL’s current battery listings describe the PWRCORE 20™ family as a common 20V ecosystem. The 20V 2.0Ah BY519702, 20V 4.0Ah BY519601 and 20V 5.0Ah BY519603 are described as compatible with all SKIL 20V tools; the BY519702 and BY519601 materials also cover 20V outdoor equipment. The newer BY5100B-00 20V 2.0Ah USB-C battery is likewise described as powering any SKIL 20V tool. In practical terms, capacity changes runtime and weight, not the platform identity. Match the exact model in the tool manual when a product is older or has a special power requirement.

Which batteries work inside PWRCORE 12™

SKIL’s BY5020A-00 12V 2.0Ah USB-C and BY5040A-00 12V 4.0Ah USB-C pages state that each is compatible with all 12V products in the PWRCORE 12™ system. The 4.0Ah pack stores more energy; the 2.0Ah pack is lighter and more compact. Some tool manuals also list legacy SKIL 12V pack numbers alongside the current USB-C packs, so the manual for the exact tool remains the final check. Do not infer compatibility from the word “lithium” or from a similar slide shape.

Are PWRCORE 12 and PWRCORE 20 batteries interchangeable?

Not as a general platform rule. SKIL’s platform pages scope PWRCORE 12 batteries to SKIL 12V products and PWRCORE 20 batteries to SKIL 20V products. The different voltage and battery interfaces mean that a normal 12V tool should not receive a 20V pack, and a normal 20V tool should not receive a 12V pack. Do not force a pack into a tool or use an adapter as proof of manufacturer approval.

Official dual-voltage exceptions

SKIL does make tools designed for both platforms. Current SKIL pages explicitly identify the 12V/20V Brushless Flip Drill (DL6300D-00), 4 In. Clamp Fan (FN0400D-00), 7 In. Fan (FN0700D-00), 7 In. Misting Fan (MF0700D-00), Collapsible Lantern (LH0300D-00), Compact Tower Light (LH2500D-00), Brushless Slim Vacuum (VA1200D-00), Power Scrubber (PB5100D-00), and Power Snake Drain Cleaner (AU0225D-00) as powered by SKIL 12V or 20V batteries. Some kits are sold with one platform’s pack, but the tool listing still states the dual-voltage capability. On dual-voltage products, a 20V pack generally delivers longer runtime or more power; use the model’s published ratings rather than assuming equal performance.

Which chargers can charge these batteries?

For PWRCORE 20, SKIL identifies 20V chargers such as SC535801, QC536001, QC5359B-02, SC5358B-02 and SC0030B-00 for the listed 20V packs in its manuals and product materials. The SC535801 standard charger pairs with any SKIL PWRCORE 20 battery, and QC536001 is the 20V Auto PWRJUMP charger. These are not 12V chargers. For PWRCORE 12, SKIL identifies 12V charging docks such as QC535701 and SC536501 for listed 12V packs. The current BY5020A-00 and BY5040A-00 USB-C batteries can also charge through a household USB-C charging block, subject to the battery’s USB-C/PD instructions. A USB-C port used to charge the battery is not the same as a 20V tool charger making the two slide-pack platforms interchangeable.

What about batteries from other brands?

No official SKIL source reviewed here approves DeWalt, Milwaukee, Ryobi, Makita, Bosch, Craftsman, or another brand’s battery for a SKIL PWRCORE tool or charger. A nominal “18V,” “20V,” or “12V” label is not a universal interface standard: rails, terminals, electronics, temperature sensing and protection logic can differ. SKIL manuals also warn that using battery packs or chargers not sold by SKIL can void the warranty. Third-party adapters may change the physical fit, but they do not create SKIL-approved compatibility and should never be used to charge a battery unless the complete setup is explicitly safety-rated.
