Why Most Brands Are Not Interchangeable
Manufacturers keep battery systems closed for three reasons: the physical rail geometry and connector pins are unique (a battery simply will not seat), the battery management system uses a proprietary handshake with the tool's electronics, and a closed platform drives platform sales — batteries and chargers are the recurring revenue behind every cordless line. The one exception is Bosch AMPShare, which is a formal licensing program with a fixed list of 15 named partner brands, not an open standard.
