Short answer: No. RYOBI’s ONE+ 18V/40V Dual Platform Charger can charge both an 18V ONE+ battery and a 40V battery in the same physical unit, but that does not make the two battery families interchangeable. RYOBI does not state that 18V and 40V batteries or tools are cross-compatible. The charger is a charging convenience, not a compatibility bridge. It is still more than DeWalt or Milwaukee offer for their own split-voltage platforms, as this site’s adapter guides note.
What the Dual Platform Charger actually does
RYOBI sells the ONE+ 18V/40V Dual Platform Charger, model PCG007. According to RYOBI’s own page, it charges “Any RYOBI 18V ONE+ or 40V Battery.” That means one charger on your bench can handle both battery families. It does not mean those battery families become one system.
RYOBI also makes specific speed claims for this charger. It calls the unit the “Fastest 18V ONE+ Charger,” with RYOBI stating it can charge a 4Ah HIGH PERFORMANCE EDGE battery in 15 minutes. For 40V batteries, RYOBI states “4X Faster 40V Charging,” with a 40V 6Ah battery charging in 1 hour.
Those are charging speeds, not interoperability claims. A 40V battery still belongs to the 40V platform, and an 18V ONE+ battery still belongs to the 18V ONE+ platform. The charger services both; it does not merge them.
Why this matters: RYOBI is more generous here than DeWalt or Milwaukee
This site’s DeWalt and Milwaukee adapter guides do not show either brand selling an equivalent dual-voltage-platform charger for their own split systems. DeWalt’s 20V Max and 60V FlexVolt lines, and Milwaukee’s M18 and M12 lines, remain separate charging ecosystems as far as those guides report. RYOBI’s decision to sell one charger for both 18V and 40V is a real convenience for anyone who owns both platforms. It just is not the same as making those platforms interchangeable.
Turning an 18V ONE+ battery into portable power: the 150W Power Source
RYOBI also offers the 18V ONE+ 150W Power Source, a battery-to-AC/USB adapter that fits all RYOBI 18V ONE+ batteries. RYOBI’s own page says it delivers “150-Watts of continuous output” through one 120V outlet, two USB-A ports, and one USB-C port.
RYOBI states the Power Source “also acts as a charger, allowing you to recharge your ONE+ batteries through the USB-C port.” RYOBI also claims “Universal Charging… by Household Outlet, In-Car Charging and even Solar Charging.” That solar-input option is a broader charging-input claim than this site’s DeWalt and Milwaukee adapter guides found for equivalent accessories from those brands.
This accessory turns an 18V ONE+ battery into a portable power supply. It does not make a 40V battery work with an 18V ONE+ tool, or vice versa.
What this guide does not claim
Charging both 18V ONE+ and 40V batteries in one charger does not mean 18V and 40V tools or batteries are interchangeable. That point is worth repeating: the dual-platform charger is a shared charging bay, not a cross-platform adapter. Nothing in RYOBI’s own pages states that 18V and 40V batteries or tools are interchangeable.
No official RYOBI-to-non-RYOBI adapter was found in this review, and none is claimed here.
